NBI biometrics centers expand

July 11, 2012 -

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in the Philippines recently implemented a new Biometrics Clearance System to improve quality of service.

The NBI Biometrics Clearance System acts as national clearinghouse of criminal records and other information for use by law enforcement entities in the Philippines. The system also helps employers verify persons without criminal convictions.

With the new biometrics clearance system, clients are able to secure clearances within five to 10 minutes, unlike the previous period of 10 to 15 days. Within that 10-minute period, the system completes cashiering, digitizes data, and conducts fingerprinting through a biometric scanner, image capture, verification and releasing.

This new system enables the NBI to accommodate up to 1,500 identity verifications a day.

The NBI has contracted service provider Strategic and Comprehensive Consultants, Inc, which is a joint venture of Real Time Data Management Services Inc. to provide the biometrics clearance system.

Most of the NBI centers are located in shopping malls for easy client access. With the advent of the new biometrics system, the NBI has expanded its nationwide centers to 63. The main office in Manila has been deploying flat screen computers and biometric scanners to regional offices for installation at different NBI centers across the country.

Courtesy lanes are provided in each center for senior citizens, pregnant women, nursing mothers and persons with disability. An e-clearance facility is also available on the Internet at The www.nbi.gov.ph.

Have you used the services offered by the new NBI biometric centers? How was your experience?
