Pakistani agency wants biometrics for elections

August 2, 2012 -

Tariq Malik, Chairman of Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), argued in an interview on Pakistan Television that the NADRA biometrics system is the solution for an improved and more transparent electoral system.

He noted that NADRA had developed an infallible biometric system that will eliminate the chances of errors during elections. He stated that innovation would bring transparency and positive results to the electoral process.

Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority is in charge of the establishment of a new smart card-based registration system for the entire population of Pakistan.

Recently, BiometricUpdate reported that the Pakistani president directed the government agency to work on a comprehensive plan to streamline Pakistan’s pension system.

Do you also believe that biometrics will be able to make Pakistan’s electoral system transparent?
