Booz Allen has introduced a biometric device that will help law enforcement and the military conduct immediate fingerprint analysis at an incident scene, cutting down on time during the initial stages of an investigation.
The handheld VAMPIRE device conducts real-time forensic analysis in the field, performing fast, accurate, on-site latent and live fingerprint identification and matching analysis.
Booz Allen’s new device, which is just slightly larger than the average smartphone, integrates custom fingerprint analysis into a commercial mobile device.
As a result, the device enables agents with minimal specialized training who are arriving on scene to rapidly gather any fingerprint evidence that may prove critical to the investigation.
VAMPIRE digitally captures latent fingerprint images from different surfaces without the use of lifting tape, ensuring the best fingerprint results for higher quality forensic evidence.
The device is also able to perform both live and latent identification to an onboard watch list and performs latent-to-latent matching, enabling users to quickly identify critical leads.
“VAMPIRE is the most recent example of how Booz Allen is pivoting to use its broad experiences in technical engineering, system integration and innovation to deliver market-wide products in the defense intelligence and law enforcement sectors,” said Adam Weiner, a principal with Booz Allen. “The VAMPIRE device was developed by Booz Allen’s Rapid Prototyping team, which quickly puts agile solutions into the field and is an important component of the firm’s Strategic Innovation Group.”
Booz Allen is currently demonstrating the VAMPIRE device in a simulated crime scene at the 121st Annual International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference and Law Enforcement Education and Technology Exposition in Orlando, Florida.
