Fingerprint recognition applications expected to drive growth for lens maker AOET

According to company president Victor Kao, Taiwanese optical lens maker Ability Opto-Electronics Technology (AOET) expects lenses for fingerprint recognition to be one of the main business growth drivers in 2019, Digitimes reports.

Industry sources revealed that AOET has cooperated with fingerprint sensor developer Goodix to beef up its competitiveness in the notebook and smartphone camera segments.

AOET produces optical lenses used in notebook webcams, digital cameras, smartphone cameras, multi-functional peripherals, scanners, barcode readers and automotive cameras. It has two factories in Taiwan with total monthly production capacity of 70 million plastic lens pieces and four million lenses; two plants in Zhenjiang, eastern China, with monthly capacity totaling eight million lenses; one in Vietnam with monthly capacity of 2.5 million glass lens pieces and 5.5 million lenses.

Total fingerprint sensor shipments for the entire consumer market is estimated to reach 1.2 billion worldwide for 2018, according to Dimitrios Pavlakis, Industry Analyst for ABI Research.
