Human Recognition Systems demos mobile app for journey personalization at Gatwick Airport

Human Recognition Systems (HRS) has announced it successfully demonstrated a new mobile app, using biometrics to personalize the travel experience for passengers at Gatwick Airport.

According to the company, the concept behind the trial simulation was to illustrate the “art of the possible” in terms of enhancing and quite importantly personalizing each passenger’s journey through the airport.   In order to showcase this, HRS developed a Gatwick Airport mobile app, which in turn, acted as the passenger’s constant source of information and guide through the airport.

The unique passenger tailored experience began as they were biometrically identified at the car park barrier. After that point, the app notified the passenger of relevant journey details.  This process of feeding the passenger personalized information, ranging from the correct check-in desk to custom generated and customer specific retail offers, continued once within the proximity of selected airport waypoints.

For this particular test, facial biometrics were used as a basis of identity, though according to Jim Slevin, Human Recognition Systems Aviation Business Unit Manager, the idea is that this could eventually entail a multi-modal biometric approach, as HRS solutions already in use in many airports capture facial and iris biometrics widely in the UK.

“HRS is proud to be partner of choice for identity management at Gatwick Airport.  This was an exciting opportunity to demonstrate an attainable tailored passenger experience and was a pleasure for all involved,” Slevin said.

In a short conversation with BiometricUpdate.com this morning, Slevin also said that the demonstration at Gatwick was very well received and that it really has shown you can personalize someone’s journey through an airport from start to finish.

According to the company, this trial compliments the current suite of HRS biometric solutions that currently supports airports across the UK to achieve their security, operational and improved passenger satisfaction requirements.

Reported previously in BIometricUpdate.com, HRS also recently deployed its identity registration platform, MTrust, for a new education sector client to help ensure compliance with the UK Border Agency’s Tier 4 regulations for international student sponsorship.
