Artec Group 3D facial recognition system deployed at Russia’s Sochi airport

Elektronika LLC has implemented an integrated 3D facial recognition system at the Sochi International Airport in Russia, ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Specifically, Elektronica has installed the Artec Group’s Broadway 3D facial recognition system for airport workers access control. The system uses the geometry of a human face and boasts recognition times of less than a second after analyzing 40 thousand points on a face.

According to the company, the system is capable of identifying a person while they are walking, as well as with facial obstructions, including sunglasses and hats. To gain access to sensitive areas of the airport, users present an identification card and then facial recognition is performed for verification.

Reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, Artec Group launched the Broadway 3D system last year.

A recently-published research report on the Russian biometrics market pointed to the 2018 World Cup and 2014 Winter Olympics in the country as two milestones expected to increase demand for physical access and logical access control systems.
