SRI International launches new iris recognition access control system

SRI International Sarnoff has launched a new biometric access control system that it says is capable of processing 30 people per minute.

According to the company, the new system, the IOM PassPort SL delivers the free flow and performance of Iris on the Move technology and can be directly integrated into existing turnstiles, infrastructures or entrances.

“Positive identification of individuals in crowded security locations, such as corporate lobbies and airports, is becoming more critical,” Mark Clifton, VP Products and Services at SRI said. “Incorporating high-speed biometric identification into existing security infrastructures without limiting throughput can address this challenge.”

The company has also announced that it will be giving live demonstrations of the IOM PassPort SL at Intersec 2014 at booth S3-404P.

Reported previously, an earlier iteration of the IOM system focused on drivers was recently given a security award from ASIS.

According to a recently-published report, the overall electronic access control systems market has recovered post recessions and is showing promising growth, owed largely to renewed interest in card-based security projects. The overall market is set to reach $16.3 billion by 2017, growing at a CAGR of 7%.
