Oberthur boasts 5th million issued ePassport in Uzbekistan

Oberthur Technologies has announced the issuance of the 5th million biometric ePassport in Uzbekistan.

According to the company, as system integrator, OT implemented a turnkey identity system solution covering the complete passport chain, including enrolment, data management, personalization, issuance, verification, border control and authentication. Specifically, the company deployed more than 400 enrolment stations and a complete factory to host the personalization and datacenter.

“OT is very proud to provide to the Republic of Uzbekistan the implementation of a turnkey end-to-end identity solution for their new ePassport,” Olivier Prestel, Managing Director of the ID Business Unit at OT said. “OT was able to mobilize a strong dedicated project team, and thanks to its ID expertise as a system integrator, we delivered and deployed across the nation a full electronic passport system, in only few months, in close cooperation with the Uzbek government teams. Our solutions secure citizens and employees’ identities wherever they are, wherever they travel, and our obsession is to make citizens’ life easier, more secure and ensure the privacy of their data.”

OT’s deployed system included a PKI infrastructure, based on system-One PKI for eMRTD, which offers a secure and modular infrastructure to manage dedicated digital certificates, compliant with ICAO and EAC standards.

Reported previously, Oberthur recently announced a new corporate brand strategy and logo as the company looks to focus on the mobile space.

According to the Biometrics Research Group, the global market for ePassports will reach $10.2 billion by 2015, with 500 million ePassports issued.
