DigitalPersona biometrics solution to boost security at Workers’ Credit Union

DigitalPersona announced that Workers’ Credit Union has implemented its DigitalPersona Pro with U.are.U 4500 Fingerprint Readers solution to authenticate employee identities.

With 240 employees in its 15 branches spread across North Central Massachusetts, WCU is using DigitalPersona biometrics-based technology to confirm positive identity when accessing online applications and websites.

WCU will use DigitalPersona solution to increase its security, eliminate password resets and improve employee workflow.

Most credit unions and community banks currently require password-based authentication to access financial information, which opens up the potential for fraud since passwords can be shared.

Additionally, if an employee misplaces or forgets their password, they will be required to reset their password, which can be both distracting and time-consuming for IT personnel.

WCU initially looked into using software to automate password resets, before realizing that implementing biometrics-based technology would simplify the process for both its employees and back office administrative staff.

The DigitalPersona solution lets WCU employees access online applications and websites by simply touching the fingerprint reader, which proves to be a more secure way to confirm positive identity and improve workflow.

WCU says its employees have already recovered two to three percent of their time that used to be lost to remembering and keying in passwords, while the credit union’s IT help desk has gained two to three percent of its time back since they no longer have to deal with password resets.

After experiencing success with biometrics for logical access to online applications and websites, WCU is now expanding its use of biometrics-based technology for physical access to its buildings and networks.

“For more than 18 years, our solutions have assisted financial institutions with securing access to applications and accounts,” said Richard Agostinelli, DigitalPersona president and CEO. “With our latest solution, Altus, we look forward to helping these same financial institutions grow their business by using biometrics to provide an assured identity to the unbanked.”

Reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, DigitalPersona recently announced that Chinese fashion retailer New Look selected a Point-of-Sale system that uses DigitalPersona fingerprint technology.
