Samsung to release second smartphone with fingerprint sensors

Samsung announced it will soon release its second biometrics smartphone, Samsung Galaxy S5 mini, which is a smaller version of its flagship Galaxy S5 phone.

Set for release later this month, the new smartphone will include hardware that its earlier smaller flagship versions omitted, including fingerprint technology for added security and convenience.

The device’s fingerprint sensor home button allows users to verify PayPal payments by pressing their finger against the sensor.

By including the fingerprint sensor on the new device, Samsung is offering greater accessibility to consumers for a smaller price-point.

It also reaffirms the mobile device market’s ongoing focus on biometrics technology, along with a new line of Apple products featuring Touch ID fingerprint sensor expected in September.

Previously reported by BiometricUpdate.com, Samsung announced that its Galaxy tablets would feature a similar embedded biometric fingerprint sensor that appears on the Galaxy S5 smartphone.
