IsItYou debuts facial recognition solution at TechCrunch Disrupt SF 2014
IsItYou made its public debut this week, demonstrating its facial recognition solution at TechCrunch’s Disrupt SF 2014, according to a report by TechCrunch.
IsItYou co-founder Benjamin Levy presented on stage and told the packed room that its algorithms offer a minimum of two advantages over Google and other competing facial recognition solutions: the solution is able to work in extreme lighting conditions, and its anti-spoofing tools make it incredible difficult to dupe the algorithm.
“On most of the phones out there today, the facial recognition fails 2 or 3 times out of ten. With our solution, the false-negative rate is closer to 2 or 3 out of 10,000,′′ Levy told TechCrunch.
IsItYou said its solution analyzes the person’s face and takes into account the effect that lighting has on your face and how it responds in different situations.
For instance, when light bounces off of a flat surface, such as in the case of a tablet or printed photo, it behaves differently than when light bounces off the face.
In a demonstration at Disrupt SF 2014, the IsItYou team demonstrated its algorithm rejecting a printed photo of Levy’s face, as well as a 3D printed mask of Levy’s face.
IsItYou’s facial recognition technology can be used by mobile handset manufacturers, retailers, digital wallets, and software developers.
IsItYou is officially launching in the fourth quarter of 2014.
