Fujitsu recently filed a few patents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office related to different vein authentication methods, according to a report by IP Watchdog.

In its filing of U.S. Patent Application No. 20140294251, entitled Vein Authentication Method, Image Processing Method, and Vein Authentication Device, Fujitsu describes its improved methods of infrared light irradiation of an individual’s palms for biometric authentication of that person.

For this vein authentication method, Fujitsu suggests using a processor to convert an image’s pixel values into low-frequency and high-frequency.

The system is designed to make vein authentication methods more accurate by lowering the impact that the surface of the light’s reflection has on the surface of an individual’s palms.

Fujitsu also filed U.S. Patent No. 8855378 under the title Biometric Authentication Device and Method, for a biometric authentication device that can acquire a time-series of biological images by capturing repeated images of a biological part of an authenticated individual in different relative positions.

The technology is designed to eliminate the impact of surface reflection that can occur when light reflects off of the various non-planar surfaces of a person’s body.

Previously reported, Fujitsu recently demonstrated their PalmSecure biometric solutions, along with currency handling technology and RFID solutions at the Global Gaming Expo.
