Fujitsu provides insurance firm Hiscox with PalmSecure palm vein reader
Fujitsu recently shared a customer case study involving Bermuda-based specialist insurance firm Hiscox, which was looking to upgrade its internal operations into a near paperless process in an effort to boost the efficiency of its business and reduce human error.
Hiscox also needed to incorporate a security protocol to enable employee access, improve workflow and ensure documents were assigned to the correct individual.
Hiscox considered several security methods, including fingerprint, facial recognition and RFID cards before Fujitsu partner Security Systems Technology Ltd. recommended that palm vein scanning might be the best option for the company. Hiscox purchased one Fujitsu PalmSecure reader and a SDK to develop its own interface.
“We reviewed the palm vein technology and were impressed with its maturity and extensive use across a range of business sectors,” said Steve Bigmore, IT Project Manager at Hiscox. “Looking forward, we could see potential integration with Microsoft Active Directory which was already in use at Hiscox, so we were confident it would remain compatible with our IT plans.
“Palm vein scanning is non-intrusive, intuitive and has extremely low false readings so it was the perfect fit for us. Over the course of a month, a two man team used the SDK to develop a .NET interface that would integrate with our infrastructure.”
Since it is based on the absorption of infrared rays, the PalmSecure solution is able to work in a range of different environments, is touch-free, offering a more hygienic procedure and provides significantly higher precision and security than the biometric recognition of a fingerprint or an iris.
You can review the case study on the Fujitsu web site.
