Biometric authentication solutions firm AssureTec Technologies announced that it was awarded Canadian Patent 2,469,797 “Document and Bearer Verification”.

The patent relates to AssureTec’s method for the secure verification of biometrics and personal data that is needed to gain secure documents and restricted access while preventing such personal information to be accessed by others.

The Canadian patent mirrors US Patent 7,003,669 B2 that AssureTec previously managed to secure.

“The issuance of both the Canadian version and the US version of this patent allows AssureTec to continue to create the most accurate and secure document issuance and identity verification programs for both commercial and government users while enabling the industry’s highest level of protection of personal information,” said Steve Maloney, president and CEO of Assuretec Technologies.

The patent covers the methods for verifying the identity of applicants applying for documents and issuers of documents.

In addition, the method also verifies the identity of bearers of documents by obtaining information from the applicant, the documents and/or the bearer without disclosing such information.

The new patent enables AssureTec to expand its ability to validate not only the document itself but both biometrics and documents against other databases.

As a result, AssureTec will be able to provide solutions that will help prevent unauthorized third-parties from improperly obtaining real documents and/or more advanced identity theft while protecting the personally identifiable information being obtained.
