Borer launches integrated biometrics and access control reader

UK access control solution provider Borer has launched the FUSION Biometrics Fingerprint PIN Reader, an integrated biometrics and access control reader that uses Power over Ethernet Plus technology and features an optical sensor with a 500 dpi resolution and a false acceptance rate of up to 10-8.

The biometrics and access control reader supports multiple factors of authentication, including card only, card plus fingerprint, card plus PIN, and card plus PIN and fingerprint.

On enrollment, the biometric template is fully encrypted in AES format and stored on the smartcard with the rest of the cardholder’s data including a digital photo and access control profile.

When the cardholder presents the card to the reader, the person’s credentials are first checked before a fingerprint template is read from the card’s memory.

The device then checks the fingerprint template against a live scan of the cardholder’s finger before granting access.

The biometric reader provides the system operator with a unique Identity Access Management approach that offers a high level of security, user convenience, a cost-effective delivery and multiple factors of authentication.

The whole solution operates on a single database and communicates over a local or wide area network, which enables biometric templates to be sent to each door’s reader over the same network.

Additionally, the FUSION system keeps a record of all access events and attempts which can be viewed in real time
and also logged to the database for future referral.

The reader’s firmware updates can be downloaded directly over the network, supporting new biometric sensor technology and smartcard standards.

Previously reported, Borer launched Tru-ID, a biometric access control system that uses fingerprint recognition to identify those authorized users, with support for up to 400 users on each site.
