Irisys releases portable USB iris recognition device

South Korean biometrics solutions firm Irisys has released Lockit, a portable USB-based iris recognition device that works with one-time passwords, according to a report by Etnews.

The device marks the company’s first commercialized product, which it will showcase at exhibitions and conferences around the world.

Lockit, which can connect to a smartphone or PC via a micro USB port, features a micro camera module and infrared LED with auto focus.

After the user initially registers their iris biometric image, he or she can connect the device to a smartphone or PC via a micro USB port.

The iris recognition authentication process takes about 0.2 to 0.8 seconds to complete, depending on the surrounding environment. The individual’s eye should be 5 to 25cm away from the camera/webcam in order for the device to recognize the iris.

Once the iris is recognized, the one-time use password is displayed in form of time sync on the LCD display, which is located on the back of the device.

Irisys has posted a video demonstrating the new iris recognition USB device.
