Precise Biometrics smartcard reader approved for usage with Swedish healthcare system Pascal
Precise Biometrics announced that its smart card reader Tactivo has been approved for usage with Swedish national healthcare system Pascal, a mobile prescription solution for dose packaged medicals used by nurses, doctors and midwives.
The Tactivo smart card reader utilizes strong two-factor authentication by combining smart card and fingerprint verification or smart card and PIN code.
The solution with Tactivo provides swift and secure access to the prescription tool Pascal from iPhone or iPad using SITHS-card login, an identification card for Swedish care professionals.
Pascal currently has over 50 000 users within the Swedish municipalities and private healthcare providers for prescription of medicals distributed in dosage bags.
”The approval of Tactivo for mobile access to Pascal is a breakthrough for secure mobile services within Swedish healthcare and we are certain that more care systems will follow this development,” said Håkan Persson, CEO of Precise Biometrics. “There are many situations where mobile access to patient information can improve quality for both staff and patients, and at the same time protect confidentiality through two-factor authentication.”
The mobile solution can be used with Tactivo to enable care providers to reduce staff workload and enables staff to accurate and secure information from anywhere.
Aside from working with the iPhone, iPad and Tactivo, Pascal consists of the access service Mobilt SITHS from Svensk e-identitet and the log-on application NetID from SecMaker.
Under the approval process, Nordic Medtest evaluated that Tactivo adheres to the various security requirements for usage of patient data on mobile devices.
“We have been waiting a long time to use Pascal on mobile devices in a secure fashion. Thanks to Tactivo it is now possible for our staff to be more effective in their work with the patients,” said Lise-Lotte Carlsson, system administrator of Kungsbacka municipality. “We can increase our presence with the patients not having to return to the office to update patient files on medication. This solution also increases patient security as we always have access to accurate information.”
Previously reported, Precise Biometrics updated its Precise iOS Toolkit to enable administrators to export raw images of a user’s fingerprint from Tactivo.
