SmartMetric to begin mass production of fingerprint activated payment cards

SmartMetric, Inc. announced that after recently receiving private equity funding, the company can move forward into mass production of its advanced secure biometric fingerprint activated chip payment cards.

Though the company still needs to finalize the lead times for some critical component, SmartMetric expects that production will begin within the next 60 to 90 days, said SmartMetric president and CEO Chaya Hendrick.

Many of the key parts used in the biometric secure payments card are reprocessed by SmartMetric, which allows the company to develop some of the thinnest silicon parts used in consumer electronics.

The maximum total card thickness is .75mm, which meets the ISO standard for credit cards.

SmartMetric had to engineer many key parts, including its Cortex processor, memory and power management components in order to achieve thicknesses that will be significantly thinner than that of a credit card.

After plastic lamination, the final card will be within the ISO card thickness measurement.

“Creating powerful yet super miniature complex electronics on a very thin circuit board has been a task with its own serious hurdles, but something SmartMetric is proud that it has achieved,” said Hendrick.

Previously reported, SmartMetric updated its fingerprint-activated chip and PIN payments card with a CVV number that is displayed only after a successful fingerprint match has been found.
