Securus patents facial recognition system for video visitation sessions

Securus Technologies announced it has received a U.S. patent for a facial recognition system that can electronically capture, analyze and identify participants of a video visitation session.

The facial recognition system identifies and confirms that the person participating in the visitation session is actually the same individual previously authorized by an enrollment and subsequent sign-on process.

The system is able to identify additional “persons of interest” that are captured on the video or still frame of an IFD (Intelligent Facility Device).

“This patent enhances Securus´ security features that we have built around providing a state of the art supervised/recorded visitation platform,” said Scott Passe, inventor of the technology. “It is based on what we have learned in providing the industry´s best inmate voice communications platform, utilizing features such as our Voice Biometrics Platforms, to the new suite of Video Visitation products.”

Securus Technologies provides emergency response, incident management, public information, investigation, biometric analysis, communication, information management, inmate self-service, and monitoring products and services to public safety, law enforcement and corrections agencies and inmates across North America.

Previously reported, Securus Technologies signed a definitive stock purchase agreement to acquire JPay Inc., a leading provider of inmate payments, email, and tablet products.
