Delhi government considering biometric time and attendance system in hospitals
The Delhi government is considering the implementation of an Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system in its hospitals to track the time and attendance of doctors and medical staff according to a report in the Business Standard.
Many Delhi hospitals have been receiving complaints about medical employees failing to report for duty on time.
“In a bid to ensure punctuality of the doctors and staff at hospitals, we are mulling to put into place an Aadhaar- enabled biometric attendance system in government hospitals,” said a senior Delhi government official. “Of late, we have received complaints of doctors, nurses and other paramedic staff not reporting for duty on time. This will make the staff accountable and even contractual employees including security guards will have to log on to this system.”
Additionally, Delhi’s Health Department has also sent a letter all the medical superintendents and directors of Delhi hospitals to strictly enforce punctuality of all the staff.
Previously reported in February, India began implementing plans for a centralized electronic payment system and set of APIs designed to encourage the country to transition over to electronic transactions via smartphone and biometric technology.
