TSA selects airports for FBI`s real time criminal history monitoring pilot
The TSA Office of Intelligence and Analysis Program Management division has selected Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to participate in a “proof of concept” pilot of the FBI RapBack service.
The program uses newly improved biometric identification capabilities introduced with Next Generation Identification (NGI) System to provide real time criminal history monitoring of the aviation worker population.
“I’m pleased to announce that DFW has been selected to take part in the monumental RapBack pilot program,” said Sean Donohue, CEO at DFW Airport. “DFW is honored to be one of two airports in the United States selected to be part of this important program.”
As part of the FBI’s Next Generation Identification Program, Rap Back is a functionality that sends authorized entities ongoing status alerts of any criminal history reported on individuals in positions of trust, such as school teachers or aviation workers.
The program will greatly improve the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies, probation and parole offices, and other criminal justice entities by keeping them advised on subsequent criminal activity of individuals under investigation or supervision.
In selecting a pilot candidate TSA’s OIA Program Management Office looked a number of factors including risk profile and volume of biometric submissions.
In addition to DFW Airport, the TSA also selected Boston Logan International Airport to participate in the pilot program.
With 1,850 flights a day and serving more than 62 million customers a year, DFW Airport is the world’s third busiest airport.
The FBI RapBack service pilot will begin at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport by the end of 2015.
