Facial recognition used on Ghana voters list: NPP claims to have found 76k fake voters
Ghanaian opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) claims that the party used facial recognition technology to discover that there are 76,000 fake voters on the country’s voter’s register, according to a report by GhanaWeb.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice-presidential nominee of the NPP, called the so-called evidence “a damning revelation” and should convince the elections governing body, Electoral Commission (EC), to compile a new voters’ register before the 2016 elections.
“Our investigative team obtained the Togo voters register…and using facial biometric recognition technology, the system has found 76,286 potential matches of the same people, with the same names and faces on the Ghanaian as well as Togolese voters’ registers,” said Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice-presidential nominee of the NPP.
Bawumia said that the 76, 286 people with same names and pictures found in the voters’ registers of both Ghana and Togo represent only “10% of the search.”
NDC General Secretary John Asiedu Nketia said the party is not worried by the opposing party’s claims because “NPP is known to have in the past engaged in fabrication and misrepresentation to achieve what they wanted.”
He said the NPP’s request to compile a new voters list is motivated by “malice”, and that the Togolese voters’ register Dr. Bawumia referred to shows no proof that it is indeed a Togolese voters’ register.

I wonder how this could have happened, then I think they need to step further to a far secure and robust technology ie iris recognition technology, this will definitely cease all complaints as it remains to be the most valuable and trusted technology.
