Aware software licensed by Certisign to provide cloud-based biometric services

Aware announced that several of its biometric products have been licensed by Brazilian digital certificates supplier Certisign to develop a cloud-based biometric services platform.

Certisign intends to use its substantial presence in the Latin American security technology and services market to deliver new biometric identity proofing and authentication service.

The company’s targeted customers include banks, retailers, telecoms, healthcare providers, and government agencies that want to curb fraud by more effectively authenticating the identity of their customers and employees via a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model.

The multi-tiered Certisign platform is based on many of Aware’s core software products, including Biometric Services Platform (BioSP), Nexa, Inquire, and Astra.

Additionally, the Certisign-branded enrollment and verification stations were built using Aware’s NISTPack, SequenceCheck, LiveScan API, PreFace, and IrisCheck SDKs.

Intended to meet high-volume service demands, the scalable system has a modular design that enables Certisign to support the various requirements of a diverse customer base.

Under the license, Aware will receive a per-transaction fee from Certisign.

Biometric enrollment and identity proofing can be done either at a customer’s premises or at one of Certisign’s more than 1,400 retail locations. Certisign staff will perform biometric authentication using workstations installed at the retail locations.

Services can be deployed either from Certisign’s cloud, or from software installed in a private cloud or network.

“Certisign promises to make robust identity fraud prevention truly universally accessible throughout Brazil and beyond,” said Rob Mungovan, VP of Biometrics at Aware. “We are pleased to be providing the identity platform in a solution that will surely set a benchmark for consumer-facing biometrics-as-services.”

Previously reported, Aware, Inc. reported financial results for its second quarter ended June 30, 2015, which includes earned revenue of $4.5 million — a decrease of 33% compared to $6.8 million in the second quarter of 2014.
