Canadian bank Tangerine testing facial recognition technology
Canadian financial institution Tangerine is piloting facial recognition technology on mobile phones and other technologies, according to a report by Bloomberg News.
The move comes a year after the bank introduced fingerprint and voice authentication services to its customers.
Tangerine’s mobile app enables customers to log in using Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint technology, while issuing voice commands through Nuane’s speech recognition technology.
“We’re proud to be the first Canadian bank to introduce biometric technology,” Aceto said in October 2014.
The company will now build on its use of biometrics by testing facial recognition technology as part of a greater effort to improve customer experience and security, said Tangerine CEO Peter Aceto.
“No ones sure what the gold standard is going to be, so you have to have the ability to be trying and testing and see what works,” said Aceto. “Certainly interacting with our mobile app using your face, using your voice, using your finger are things that were going to enhance and deploy in a much broader way.”
Previously reported, Canadian financial institution RBC announced it will implement fingerprint authentication into its mobile wallet app following Google’s announcement that it will add new Android-based security features.
