ImageWare Systems received a notice of allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office that its United States patent application No. 14/254,629, titled “Multi-Modal Biometric Database Searching Methods,” will be granted. This will be ImageWare’s 11th U.S. patent.

Under the patent application, ImageWare seeks exclusive rights to the search process of comparing multiple modalities, whether it be in a single search method in which all modalities are compared simultaneously, or a multiple search method in which one modality is compared to another and is eventually narrowed down to the matching modal.

“We continue to strategically position ourselves as a leader in the quickly growing biometric space,” said ImageWare Chairman and CEO Jim Miller. “The addition of this patent will extend our already broad intellectual property coverage to include the method of searching databases, both large and small, to determine if they consist of multiple biometric modalities for search and match. This coverage further protects ImageWare’s flagship product, IWS Biometric Engine®, and the underlying technology that enables enterprises to biometrically search and match populations for identity confirmation.”

Previously reported, ImageWare Systems partnered with IT solutions firm CDW Corporation to offer customers IWS biometric authentication products for mobile and cloud use cases.
