LockSmart keyless lock uses bluetooth and Touch ID

Australian developer Dog and Bone has introduced LockSmart, a patented, keyless Bluetooth padlock controlled by an iOS or Android app.

LockSmart is rugged, waterproof and provides users with a keyless, trackable and secure solution for locking and accessing valuables.

LockSmart offers Bluetooth security with 128-bit advanced encryption and the option for owners to unlock the padlock using Touch ID, tapping the icon, or entering a passcode.

LockSmart’s app allows owners to manage one or several padlocks through its mobile app, and share lock access with others while tracking lock use. All lock activity can be viewed in the app which displays username, date, and time of use, and user access can be revoked at any time without exchanging a physical key.

LockSmart features a custom cell lithium-ion battery, providing up to two years of power or as many as 3,000 unlocks before a recharge. The app notifies users when the LockSmart is low on power and can be charged using a micro USB tucked into the weatherproof seal.

In related news, a Canadian startup comprised of a group of former engineering students from the University of Waterloo have developed a quick-release biometric bike lock that unlocks using the user’s fingerprint. Grasp Lock scans the bike owner’s fingerprint and unlocks the device in less than a second.

The Grasp Kickstarter campaign is currently within $14,000 of its target of $75,000 with 17 days left to go.
