SecuGen Corp to demo Unity biometric development platform at CES 2016
SecuGen Corp has unveiled Unity BDP (biometric development platform), a new platform for developing a wide range of fingerprint enabled biometric products.
Using the Unity BDP, device manufacturers can easily embed sophisticated fingerprint technology into a range of hardware products, including access control devices, time & attendance machines, civil ID handheld devices, ATMs, industrial equipment, and point of sale equipment.
The Unity BDP offers an integrated Linux development environment and embedded biometric fingerprint registration and matching functions, delivering efficiency of development.
The platform includes a FAP 20 certified optical fingerprint sensor, an open Linux system running on a 1 GHz CPU, and a modular design that accommodates a range of expansion boards.
Future expansion boards may include Ethernet, Bluetooth capability, and battery logic for mobile devices. Additionally, the boards may provide an assortment of interfaces such as for LED/LCD displays, keypads, RS-232, and USB connectivity.
Unity BDP’s API provides developers with access to SecuGen’s NIST certified template extraction and matching algorithms.
Many developers that use Unity BDP will no longer require a separate controller board since the biometric platform includes a fast processor, open Linux, and the ability to add different interfaces and logic via expansion boards.
“Unity BDP is the world’s first biometric development platform as far as we can tell,” said Jeff Brown, VP of sales and marketing for SecuGen. “Our team has been able to go far beyond delivering a simple fingerprint sensor. Unity BDP includes a comprehensive set of tools that allow developers to create fingerprint enabled products quickly and efficiently. This product is revolutionary.”
Beginning in the first quarter of 2016, SecuGen will release the first products of the Unity product family, which it will be showcasing at CES in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9.
Previously reported, Realtime North America Inc. implemented SecuGen fingerprint reader, the Hamster Pro 20, into its bioLock biometric identity management and fraud prevention software.
