Facial recognition to be used at Ardh Kumbh
India’s Uttarakhand police is using facial recognition as part of its security measures to spot terrorists and criminal suspects in the crowds at Ardh Kumbh, a Hindu pilgrimage of faith.
The security authorities at Ardh Kumbh will take photos of terrorists from the Intelligence Bureau database and add it to the application, which is linked to CCTV cameras.
Senior railway officers have also been asked to ensure security of devotees in the trains arriving to Uttarakhand during the period of Ardh Kumbh. “In addition, we have also asked for linking CCTV cameras in railway stations to those in the police cyber camp office of Ardh-Kumbh,” the Director General of Police told the Times of India.
Previously reported, NEC India and AP Technology Services Limited (APTS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate in the areas of IT for smart city initiatives in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. NEC is supporting APTS implementing the Safe City Project in Tirupati by providing leading solutions and technologies, including facial recognition systems and automated fingerprint identification systems.
