Brussels and Paris to use biometric data to prevent forged documents
National intelligence authorities will share important counter-terrorist information and deepen cooperation, according to a joint statement by French Prime Minister Manuel Valls and Belgian Premier Charles Michel as reported in New Europe.
The two officials met earlier this week in Brussels and agreed that there is a need to share information and use more biometric data to prevent forged documents.
“The main message is that we stand side by side and are determined to work to increase the level of security for our citizens,” Michel said at the press conference.
Valls added, “We must be united around our values, cooperate and become stronger against terrorism. I have never doubted the Belgian people.”
The interior and justice ministers of both countries participated in the meeting, along with representatives of the military, police and intelligence services.
According to the report, French official said the national intelligence authorities will now share important counter-terrorist information and the French justice ministry will also send a liaison official to Belgium on important cases.
The two EU countries will also push to introduce Passenger Name Record (PNR) legislation in the EU to allow national authorities access to the names of all EU airline travelers.
