Fujitsu releases 2-in-1 tablet with palm vein biometric technology

Fujitsu launched its STYLISTIC Q736, a new 2-in-1 device secured with PalmSecure palm vein biometric authentication that the company claims is more accurate, faster, easier and more hygienic than competing authentication solutions.

The new 13.3-inch tablet – which can also be transformed into a clamshell notebook through the connection of a dockable keyboard – enables security authentication via biometrics or SmartCard technology.

The device also provides support for contactless SmartCard via NFC (near-field communication) technology.

The STYLISTIC Q736 features encrypted drives and Intel’s TPM for the secured storage of security keys and passwords, providing further protection against any unauthorized access to sensitive data.

The tablet’s performance and security benefits makes it ideally suited to vertical industries where it is crucial that the data stored on the device is secured, as well as ensuring secured access to the tablet itself.

Once they are authenticated, users can access data from any location and at any time. The device’s enterprise grade connectivity includes 4G / LTE communications and built-in GPS.

“Since human error is one of the most common security problems, we have taken a human centric approach towards systematically eliminating any weak points,” said Jörg Hartmann, head of category management for EMEIA product business at Fujitsu. “The new STYLISTIC Q736 incorporates the very latest biometric and SmartCard security technologies that help reduce the chance of simple, but potentially disastrous mistakes, such as someone leaving their tablet unlocked in a public place.”

Available around the world starting next month, the STYLISTIC Q736 features up to the latest, 6th Generation Intel Core i7 vPro processors, and a high-resolution IPS full-HD anti-glare dual digitizer touchscreen display (1920 × 1080 pixels).

The tablet can be combined with options such as a keyboard docking station for additional interfaces, a second battery option, and an expansion cradle. Additionally, the embedded dual digitizer works with a digital pen.

Previously reported, MedicFP LLC and Fujitsu announced they will debut a patient identity solution that uses palm vein biometrics at the Health IT Conference for 2016 (HIMSS16), held February 29 – March 4 in Las Vegas.
