Peru to issue 1.6M biometric passports over next three years
Over the next three years, Peru’s National Superintendent of Migrations and Foreign Affairs Ministry will issue 1.6 million biometric passports, according to a report by Andina, allowing Peruvian citizens to enter the Eurozone without a visa for up to 90 days.
The National Superintendent of Migrations will issue 1.2 million and the Foreign Affairs Ministry will issue 400,000 of the electronic documents, including 20,000 diplomatic passports.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry overseas expect to issue 80,000 biometric passports this year starting on July 11th at Peruvian consulates in Madrid, Barcelona, Milan and Amsterdam, where the corresponding work committees have already been installed. Equipment and tools to process information and design biometric passports will be set up at 111 embassies across the world.
The date on which Peruvians will be allowed to enter the Schengen area visa-free is yet to be determined.
