Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris features iris recognition technology ready for Aadhaar authentication

According to a report in Tech Radar India, Samsung has launched the Galaxy Tab Iris in India featuring iris recognition technology that is ready for Aadhar authentication.

The Android device has been designed and developed in Samsung’s R&D center in Bangalore. The iris scanner is Aadhar, STQC and UIDADI certified. The tablet features a 7-inch WSVGA display with a resolution of 1024*600, a 1.2 Ghz quad core processor, a 5MP autofocus rear ‘iris’ camera for biometric authentication, 1.5GB RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 200 Gb with a MicroSD card and a 3,600 mAh battery.

According to company, the biometric technology in the Galaxy Tab Iris will help India spread its Digital India vision and will help provide “cashless and paperless services in applications such as banking, apart from e-governance services such as passport, taxation, healthcare, and education.”

Samsung is also providing an identity SDK for application developers to build financial inclusion, payments and authentication solutions.

The device is solely aimed at the government and enterprise sector and the company says that it has no plans to focus on consumer sales at the moment.

European trademarks hint that Samsung Galaxy Note 6 to feature iris scanner

Samsung’s recent trademark applications hint at the upcoming Galaxy Note 6 smartphone to feature iris scanning technology, according to a report by Tech Times.

Dutch publication Galaxy Club recently reported that Samsung has filed “Samsung Iris” and “Samsung Eyeprint” trademarks in Europe.

Currently, there are only a few smartphones on the market that feature iris recognition technology. Last November, Microsoft launched its Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, both of which featured iris scanners.

Although Samsung has yet to announce the specs, the Galaxy Note 6 is speculated to feature a 5.8-inch screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 6 GB of RAM.

Additionally, the phone is expected to be offered in 2 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB internal storage options.

The company is also expected to announce three versions in the upcoming Galaxy Note series, including the Galaxy Note 6, Galaxy Note 6 edge and Galaxy Note 6 Lite.

Based on the mid August launch date of its predecessor, Galaxy Note 5, many are speculating that Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 6 around the same time this year.
