Samsung considering South Korean suppliers for fingerprint reader components
New reports reveal that Samsung appears to be ready to implement fingerprint readers on the bulk of its upcoming handsets and is looking at several South Korean firms to supply the technology, according to a report in Tech Times.
Widespread adoption of fingerprint technology has previously thought to be challenging for Samsung because there are few companies that manufacture it in large scale, except for FPC and Synaptics.
It has already been revealed that Samsung is currently considering producing its own fingerprint sensor and that production might already be underway with Samsung’s System LSI division purportedly working on the module as early as 2015.
According to the Tech Times report, an in-house fingerprint sensor production facility could be similar to Samsung SDI, which is helping drive the reduction of company’s dependence on third-party vendors.
