Air France recognized for its biometric boarding pass solution

At this week’s Future Travel Experience (FTE) Global Awards in Las Vegas, Air France took home the Bronze Award for the implementation of a biometric boarding pass solution. Air France developed the innovative solution in partnership with IDEMIA.

The biometric boarding pass improves and simplifies the customer’s baggage drop-off and boarding process and works in strict compliance with personal data protection laws and regulatory requirements. The passenger’s biometric facial data is encoded in the boarding pass barcode. Cameras positioned at the automatic baggage drop-off area or in the security-screening gate identify and authenticate the passenger.

Several pilots were carried out successfully this summer, firstly with Air France, Paris Airports, KLM and IATA staff as well as on 5 flights to Cape Town. As from this autumn, the biometric boarding pass will be rolled out on a much larger scale at Paris-Charles de Gaulle.

“I wish to thank our teams for their audacity and ability to innovate to serve our customers,” stated Alain Hervé Bernard, COO and Accountable Manager of Air France. “This award recognizes and rewards their efforts, of course, and also our global innovation strategy.”

IDEMIA announced recently that its OneLook device, which provides rapid capture, matching, and processing of face and iris biometrics, scored among the leaders in all three performance categories in the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate’s 2018 Biometric Technology Rally.
