Princeton Identity puts multi-biometric access control system in a shipping container

Princeton Identity has created a multi-biometric access control solution self-contained in a shipping container designed to identify people as they pass through it, TechCrunch reports.

The company’s new Biometric Conex product is smaller than the average shipping container, and can be transported on the back of a heavy-duty truck. It can be made operational in less than a day, and powered by a generator and cell signal. Once deployed, it captures fingerprint, iris, and facial images of up to 20 people per minute, and cuts down on queuing by performing scans of people as they walk.

The combination of biometric modalities makes it highly accurate, the company says, and difficult to spoof. Princeton Biometrics’ templates are also compatible with government databases.

People can be enrolled in less than a minute as they pass through the Conex, and each unit costs $280,000.

Princeton Identity CEO Mark Clifton told TechCrunch that the technology only retains templates, which can be encrypted and are stored locally, though customers can choose to store raw images. “We’re just devices that sit inside their firewall,” he said. “We don’t control the data — they do.”

Dubai International Airport deployed identity management kiosks from Princeton Biometrics early this year, and it recently patented three iris recognition systems.
