German facial biometrics startup Saffe touts overall top-15 NIST testing result

Saffe Ltd. has placed 14th in the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT), based on the average performance of each vendor’s best ranks across the test’s five categories in four different evaluations.

The top-15 finish is a source of pride for the 4th-year startup, the company says, noting it outperformed many established vendors, large technology companies and some Chinese AI unicorns. The results confirm Saffe as a global competitor in the facial biometrics market, and the company’s readiness to support strong customer authentication processes at financial institutions, according to the announcement.

“Our main asset is our technology and the world class results at NIST test confirm that we are among the best technology providers in the world for facial biometrics,” comments Saffe CEO André Coelho. “We are sure that our clients will appreciate these results, which further support our goal of creating a network among financial institutions and enterprises.”

Saffe provides its proprietary face matching technology with proprietary liveness detection for facial recognition across multiple channels from the cloud or the client’s premises.

According to research from Visiongain, the market for facial recognition technology will grow to $4.6 billion this year.
