Smart Africa to hire Project Manager for Digital Identity initiative
Regional initiative Smart Africa is seeking a Consultant-Project Manager (C-PM) to run its Digital Identity initiative.
Smart Africa is a commitment from heads of state and governments in Africa, with roots in a 2013 conference. Its Manifesto was endorsed by the African Union (AU) in 2014, and the Smart Africa Alliance has grown to include 27 countries with more than 600 million people.
The group’s Digital Identity initiative was created in support of efforts to provide digital ID to previously socially and financially excluded people across the continent, as a part of the broad effort to create a single digital market for Africa. It was launched in 2019, when Smart Africa adopted the concept as a crucial element in its plans.
The C-PM role will include “responsibility for management of various strategic projects, in close consultation with stakeholders and partners,” according to the recruitment announcement, and will help “define and execute” strategy on different projects related to digital ID development, e-payment and cloud services. Documenting strategy, producing presentations and key messaging, analysis and research on the sector, building new and existing alliances, establishing close collaboration among an interdisciplinary team, mobilization of funds and resources, periodical reports and participation in meeting and workshops are among the position’s general duties.
The C-PM is also responsible for managing consultants and institutional partners, monitoring and supervising the work of various initiative participants, logistics management, and other tasks.
Necessary qualifications are a Masters’ Degree in a relevant computer or mathematics field and at least five years of experience, fluency in both English and French, and candidates should be self-starters with a high degree of flexibility, able to effectively explain strategy, with experience in project coordination, management of projects related to ID, and creative writing. Other qualifications are listed on the web page linked above.
The contract covers one year in the position.
Smart Africa is one of several international organizations working in support of universal digital identity in Africa, along with ID4Africa and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and others.
