Identity verification in the age of AI agents

Identity verification in the age of AI agents

AI agents are becoming a new challenge for identity verification as automated and AI-assisted activity increasingly enters onboarding, login, account recovery, customer support and transaction flows.

Traditional identity systems were designed around the assumption that a real person is present and acting directly. As this becomes harder to establish, organizations need to look beyond individual identity signals and assess whether documents, biometrics, devices, and sessions genuinely belong together.

Regula’s report explores how organizations are adapting to an AI-driven identity landscape and whether existing verification processes can still provide meaningful assurance. It examines the key questions businesses need to answer: Is the document authentic? Was the biometric captured live? Do the identity signals belong together? And can the organisation explain and defend its decision when challenged?
