Signicat certified for IDV, digital identity orchestration in UK by Kantara

Signicat’s technology for biometric identity verification and ID document validation with NFC scans, ReadID, has been certified for the UK’s digital ID system, along with the company’s orchestration capability. ReadID is now listed in the Digital Verification Services (DVS) register for the component and orchestration roles, following an audit by the Kantara Initiative.

ReadID provides document verification and face biometrics comparisons, and is used by public and private institutions for millions of transactions each month, according to Signicat.

The audit was carried out under Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF) version 0.4 (gamma). The DIATF has been replaced by the DVS trust framework, which occasioned the change in the registry’s name, but the change only takes effect on the trust framework side when version 1.0 takes effect later this year.

The UK’s emerging digital identity market went through a period of chaos under Prime Minister Keir Starmer, whose proposed national digital ID threatened to undermine the market for digital identity services from the private sector and ultimately contributed to his exit from the PM role. The shift makes the market of services certified to the trust framework, under the administration of the Office for Digital Identity and Attributes (OfDIA), the main path to achieving digital trust in the UK.

With the certification, Signicat is now offering its ReadID component and orchestration services to third parties certified for Right to Work, Right to Rent and Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) checks.

“Organizations and individuals spend an exorbitant amount of time and money trying to keep up with fragmented identity regulations across Europe and the UK,” says Ray Ryan, UK country manager for Signicat, in the company announcement. “The DIATF certification alongside our other certifications ensures regulated sectors have a unified, independently certified secure method to onboard staff and customers instantly, without leaving the door open to sophisticated fraud.”

Signicat subsidiary Inverid has long provided ReadID technology for the UK government’s One Login, which uses iProov biometrics, and was restored to the registry of certified providers at the beginning of this year.

The company has also been urging businesses across Europe to prepare for a hybrid future that includes identity verification through both digital wallets and eIDs.
