South African firm unveils multifunction biometric ID solution
A new biometric solution has been developed by a South African firm to fulfil a need in the marketplace for a multifunction device that can scan physical identity documents such as passports and driver’s licenses.
The new solution, entitled Greenbox, combines a camera, fingerprint reader, document scanner, digital signature pad with an interactive touch-screen, EMV-compliant smart card reader, USB connection, device drivers and Microsoft-based operating system.
The solution, developed by Meniko also has a unique biometric verification functionality that can be used for identity verification. This functionality can be used in any environment to prevent identity theft and to authenticate individuals for medical tests, human resource requirements and for any financial transaction.
According to Mike Morris, CEO of Meniko, the GreenBox “offers advantages in so many different areas. And it offers them to a very broad range of organizations.”
GreenBox, which comes in a desktop unit that weighs under two kilograms, is set to be showcased at the ITWeb IDentity Indaba Executive Forum, on September 11.
