Fingerprint Cards reports new smartphone design win

Categories Biometrics News

Fingerprint Cards‘ (FPC) latest design win is for its FPC 1080A swipe sensor and it’s from a Chinese Tier 2 smartphone brand.

This particular brand supplies products in China, as well as India.

“China is the world’s largest market for smartphones, with forecast sales volume of 430 million units in 2013. Chinese brands already account for a market share exceeding 50%,” Johan Carlström, President and CEO of Fingerprint Cards AB said. “We opened our first sales and support office in Greater China in September 2012 and we are delighted to already announce our sixth smartphone design win in the most important Greater China market. Due to our world-leading capacitive fingerprint technology, image quality and power consumption, FPC is now established as the leading alternative for fingerprint sensors in smartphones and tablet devices. We expect a number of additional design wins in the booming Greater China market during 2013.”

Just yesterday, Fingerprint Cards opened a new office in Lund, Sweden, and appointed a new manager of system and software development.

FPC has been growing at a rapid rate, since last year. Reported previously, Fingerprint Cards has been receiving a large amount of orders and design-wins as of late.  As we’ve noted in BiometricUpdate.com, Fingerprint Cards has announced several design-wins in China and Japan, as well as a third Asian country in the last 6 months.

The company has also recently joined the growing FIDO Alliance, a non-profit industry consortium organized to address market needs and requirements for online authentication.
