Bytes Technology Group acquires BNT, becomes Lumidigm partner

Following its acquisition of Brand New Technology, Bytes Technology Group is now a Lumidigm partner, securing exclusive distribution in Africa and the Middle East for Lumidigm’s authentication solutions.

Brand New Technology had long been a South African partner for Lumidigm, though in a string of acquisition deals last month, Bytes scooped it up, dependent on established three-year profit targets, as TechCentral reports.

“Bytes has worked alongside BNT for several years to build an established customer base and strategic market share for Lumidigm biometric fingerprint readers locally,” Nick Perkins, divisional director: identity management solutions, Bytes Systems Integration said in an interview on itWeb.co.za. “Our identity management solutions division focuses largely on customer identity verification solutions, and having access to Lumidigm’s multi-spectral imaging (MSI) technology ensures customers who want to use fingerprint readers get the very best fingerprint technology available. With Bytes SI’s large footprint in South Africa and across the continent, the partnership made sense, as it enables further penetration of the market for both companies.”

As the report notes, Lumidigm products are already in use at many of South Africa’s leading banks and also in a number of other industries.

Reported previously, the biometric systems at the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge in Belgium have been replaced with Lumidigm V-Series multispectral fingerprint readers. The port of Antwerp is Europe’s second largest port, while Zeebrugge is the central port for Europe’s automotive industry and has the largest liquefied natural gas terminal complex in Europe.
