Morpho has joined the FIDO Alliance, the group announced Monday.

“As a leader in secure identity management, we are delighted to join the digital industry’s most innovative players in revolutionizing online authentication,” Thomas Chenevier, Senior Vice President, Products and Innovation at Morpho said. “Joining the FIDO Alliance is a natural move for Morpho at a time when we are expanding our e-service offering.”

As we’ve reported previously, members of the alliance commit to sharing technology and collaborating on the development of open specifications that enable FIDO-compliant authentication methods to be interoperable, secure, private and easy to use. FIDO is looking to address the need to develop a viable alternative to passwords.

As a member, Morpho will offer FIDO-compliant products enabling banks, online service providers and mobile network operators to provide more convenient and secure access to online services.

“Morpho will contribute to FIDO’s vision of more secure and convenient online authentication for a broad range of identity and payment applications,” Michael Barrett, president of the FIDO Alliance said. “We are delighted to welcome Morpho as a Sponsor member and look forward to drawing upon their expertise in biometrics and protecting identity data.”

The FIDO Alliance also recently announced the first deployment of FIDO authentication and biometric fingerprint payment options, though a new collaboration between PayPal and Samsung.

Earlier this year, the alliance released its first public review draft of its technology specification.
