Samsung releases health and wearable SDKs

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., announced that it released new platforms and developer tools Wednesday to enhance its digital health and wearable offerings. Samsung released its new technologies at its annual developers conference held in San Francisco.

“Our announcements highlights the exciting developments occurring at Samsung and its growing ecosystem of developers and partners, across a wide range of technologies,” said Won-Pyo Hong, President and Head of Samsung Media Solutions Center. “We remain committed to enabling developers to create innovative solutions that ultimately improve consumer lifestyles.”

The electronics firm unveiled its Samsung Digital Health (SDH) Platform and SDK, which provides developers with a feature to track personal health information, including: activity, workout, food consumption and more. In addition, the health platform syncs the information with Samsung’s cloud offerings. This allows both services and apps to be connected to the SDH Platform, in order to interface with services from Samsung’s partners in the healthcare industry.

Samsung also made its Simband open reference design platform available to developers wishing to design sensors and algorithms based on the platform. Simband is an open hardware reference design for wearable technology, capable of integrating sensing technologies.

Samsung is also making other software tools for wearable development. The Gear S SDK enables developers to create unique applications harness network and location data by capitalizing on the cellular functions.
