UAE requires biometrics for SIM card re-registration

IN order to complete the re-registration process of their SIM cards, mobile phone users in the United Arab Emirates need to personally visit Etisalat business centres to have their fingerprint scanned and verified against the person’s fingerprints registered with Emirates ID.

Etisalat is the leading telecommunications company in the Middle East and Africa and is headquartered in Abu Dhabi.

According to a report in Gulf Digital News, telecom users in the United Arab Emirates have been asked to update their information with telecom companies following renewal of their residence visa and Emirates ID.

It is now mandatory in the United Arab Emirates for residents to submit copies of their renewed Emirates ID card to banks and telecom companies to verify identity.
