Acquisition to boost HID Global’s secure government ID offerings

HID Global has acquired government ID solutions firm Arjo Systems SAS for an undisclosed amount, expanding HID Global’s capabilities to deploy electronic identification (eID) and ePassport solutions for government programs.

“Our acquisition of Arjo Systems significantly advances our Government-to-Citizen ID business, broadening our geographical reach and giving us critical mass,” explained Stefan Widing, president and CEO of HID Global. “Arjo Systems is a strong fit for HID Global, complementing our existing government ID offerings with an expanded range of capabilities for government agencies, state printers and local integrators.”

According to the release, the acquisition “brings together complementary strategies, customer bases and offerings that have strong synergies to support continued innovation for government-to-citizen ID customers.”

Arjo Systems expands HID’s eID and ePassport solutions portfolio with complementary products and new software capabilities, which includes one of the few proven eID/ePassport chip operating systems, integration services and market knowledge.

As a result, HID Global will be able to build on its presence in select emerging markets to ultimately better support its government customers and integrators.

Arjo Systems will be merged with HID Global’s existing government ID solutions business. The company and its approximately 100 employees will continue operations in France, Italy and Hong Kong.

With more than two decades of experience in the government market, HID Global has shipped more than 150 million government-issued IDs in over 50 countries for major projects including national ID, e-passport, foreign resident ID, driver’s license and vehicle registration programs.

Earlier this year, HID Global launched what it calls the industry’s first end-to-end identity access management solution that enables government agencies and other organizations requiring higher security to use a single credential for accessing doors, IT systems, networks and data.
