AirAsia rolling out facial recognition-based check-in, boarding

AirAsia will be rolling out a facial recognition-based self service check-in system that will also be used to automate the boarding gate procedure.

According to an interview with AirAsia group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes in the New Straits Times, the Fast Airport Clearance Experience System (FACES) is set to be introduced next month at the Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru.

In related news, SITA president for Asia Pacific Sumesh Patel said earlier this month that facial recognition trials at Australia’s Brisbane Airport have shown a 70 per cent reduction in passenger processing times for boarding and check-in.
