Kona I selected as card supplier for Visa biometric payments card pilot

More details have emerged regarding the role of Kona I as a supplier for Visa’s biometric payment cards pilot project. The company will provide battery-free card components with energy harvesting technology for cards which capture, store, and validate the cardholder’s fingerprint, the Korea Herald reports.

Claus Hansen, Kona I Vice President of Global Business, said the partnership is an endorsement of the company’s advanced technology which strengthens its global leadership position.

Visa originally announced pilots a month ago for chip and contactless payment cards featuring technology from Kona I, Fingerprint Cards, and Precise Biometrics for Mountain America Credit Union, and from Fingerprint Cards and Gemalto for the Bank of Cyprus.

Fingerprint Cards recently mentioned Kona I in a blog post as a card manufacturer contributing to the collaborative environment that will help make 2018 a break-out year for biometric smartcards.
