SPS and Oasys partner to improve cost efficiency and accuracy of smart card production

Smart card technology developer Smart Packaging Solutions (SPS) and smart card manufacturing tool vendor Oasys Technologies UK have announced a new industrial solution for dual-interface smart card production.

The new series of semi-automated production machines from Oasys are specially adapted to integrate SPS 40µm PET inlays for a quick setup and optimal yield, and allows manufacturers to meet the increased market demand for dual interface cards in the Americas, which requires more cards with colored S-Lams to meet the marketing needs of card issuers. The specific detectors the fully automated systems are equipped with allow for an accurate alignment between different layers using the inlay’s aluminum structure, without print marks. This capability provides maximum accuracy without additional print processing and cost, according to the announcement.

“With this combined solution with Oasys we bring an integrated solution to smart card manufacturers of all sizes, enabling them to integrate our process while getting the highest yields,” says SPS Banking Product Manager Jean Baptiste Leos. “Thanks to this joint offer smart card vendors will be innovative and remain competitive in conquering new markets.”

SPS recently introduced an anti-skimming active jamming device for securing electronic passport data.

Good Intelligence forecasts that nearly 579 million biometric payment cards will be used globally by 2023, and a trial of fingerprint-enabled smart cards in France leveraging technology from IDEMIA and Fingerprint Cards was recently announced by Société Générale.
