Startup Identity Devices launches Biometric Privacy Platform for Aadhaar authentication
Biometric and digital identity startup Identity Devices Sweden AB has announced the development of a new Biometric Privacy Platform for the Aadhaar ecosystem to give individuals enhanced control of their own Aadhaar data.
The Biometric Privacy Platform (BPP) includes authentication hardware and software which the company says add a consumer-choice layer on top of Aadhaar for both online and offline authentication modes. Devices with BPP integrated enable the user to make dynamic choices for each authentication event, according to the announcement.
“Identity Devices is committed to the principle that individuals should have power over their personal data, what and when to share it, and how it is used,” explains Identity Devices CEO and Founder David Burnett. “This principle can have no better validation than when it is applied to the Aadhaar user. We are delighted to be able to offer to the Indian market an instrument which addresses the very valid concerns of people regarding their sensitive personal data. The solutions offered by Identity Devices will make it easier than ever before for Digital Identity, IoT and FinTech device makers to add biometric features that allow them to connect more securely to popular authentication and identity ecosystems.”
BPP offers a QR Code offline authentication capability which is compliant with the Aadhaar Act, as well as the recent Supreme Court decisions, UIDAI requirements, and other relevant government policies, the company says. Some of the details of allowable Aadhaar authentication are still being worked out at the legislative level. Its online authentication and biometric capture capabilities are also expected to be certified fully compliant with the UIDAI’s multi-modal biometric authentication requirements.
“There is enormous demand for fingerprint and iris authentication in India now that systems like Aadhaar have demonstrated the ease-of-use, viability and economic benefits of multi-modal biometric authentication at very large scale,” adds Identity Devices VP of Sales and Marketing for India, Mukesh Singh. “Our pre-certified and easy-to-integrate products directly address the needs of a wide range of device makers to quickly innovate and differentiate their products with biometric experiences and ecosystem integration.”
Identity Devices recently partnered with Fingerprint Cards to integrate its fingerprint and iris biometric technologies in its new products and pre-certified integration kits for device makers.
